“It’s one thing to understand the issue of homelessness in your head and a whole other thing to feel it in the numbness of your toes.”

Be a Part of the Solution to End Homelessness

A Night on the Street, Friday, April 18, 2008

Did you know that young people under age 21 make up nearly half of all homeless in the state of Minnesota? (Wilder Research 2006 study). You can help to change this by putting your faith into action and joining with hundreds of area youth at A Night on the Street. A Night on the Street is an overnight youth service and learning experience organized by the Plymouth Church Neighborhood Foundation. It’s an opportunity for youth groups to speak with one voice and take action against homelessness by spending the night sleeping out and raising funds for affordable housing.

Spend the Night Sleeping in a Box

A Night on the Street is filled with powerful learning experiences and fun. In addition to spending the night sleeping in a cardboard box, you will understand what it's like to be homeless from youth who have been there as well as learning about some of the causes of homelessness and solutions from advocates who work to help our most vulnerable. You'll stand in a "soup line" for dinner and listen to youth poets share their spoken word. Music and prizes will also be a part of the night's activities.

Youth Helping Youth by Raising Money

Youth participating in A Night on the Street are asked to collect $100 in donations prior to the event. All of the money will go toward creating affordable housing by the Plymouth Church Neighborhood Foundation, a faithbased non-profit housing developer. One of the Foundation’s current projects is supportive housing for youth who have been homeless or who are at risk of homelessness.
